Abstract

What is Engineering and what is the role of the Engineer? Is there only one way to train as an Engineer? These are questions frequently asked by young people interested in the profession. The answer to the first question is to understand the difference between science and technology. To do this, we have added to the authoritative opinion of Mario Bunge concepts collected in an internal working document of AITU from 2012.

To try to answer the second question, the history of Technological Education in Uruguay is briefly recounted from its beginnings in 1878 to the present, with emphasis on the areas of Electricity and Electronics
