Nowadays globalization is part of the world and English has become the lingua franca for business and global communication, the biggest powers in the world put extreme efforts into education. Mexico has included the language as a signature in its education program for the different levels, however, students don’t get the knowledge and lose this important tool in the professional environment. This situation made us wonder the questions: why students don’t learn English? Are they interested in the language? Is English an important tool in the working life for them? To answer these questions, we decided to make some research which purpose is to get the student’s opinion about it and analyze their answers. We worked with a group of 12 university students that study electromechanics engineering, business management engineering, and industrial engineering. The group was observed during the months of October, November, and December in the school period 2019 – 2020.
This investigation shows the phase of diagnostic to identify the opportunity areas that must be attended with an intervention project “learning of English with the task-based learningâ€, this is part of the process in the master administration of learning in Universidad Veracruzana, region Poza Rica – Tuxpan. We show the results of the instruments applied to evaluate the importance given by the students to English showing that a big percent of them give a good level of importance to it, but their knowledge of English is low. Form the information given was possible to identify the need of the group of students.
